HIGHWAY CONTRACTS AWARDED

Released on February 21, 1995

Highways and Transportation Minister Andy Renaud today announced the
awarding of four paving contacts valued at over $4 million. There will
be 150 jobs associated with these contracts.

Potzus Construction Ltd. of Yorkton was the lowest of seven bidders at
$1,128,130 for paving 12.59 km on Highway 14 near Asquith. Total cost
of the project, including department-supplied materials and resources,
is more than $1.3 million. Work will begin May 10 and is planned for
completion June 30.

Paving will be done on Highway 55 near Green Lake for 10.5 km by
Anderson Rental and Paving Ltd. of Regina, the lowest of three bidders
at $904,878. Total cost of the project, including department-supplied
materials and resources, is more than $ 1.1 million. The starting date
for the project is June 1 and the planned completion date is July 15.

Potzus Construction Ltd. of Yorkton, the lowest of four bidders at
$970,950, will be paving almost 16 km on Highway 8 from Rocanville
north to the PCS potash mine. Total cost of the project, including
department-supplied materials and resources, is approximately $1.2
million. Work is planned to begin in early June and to be completed by
Aug. 1.
ASL Paving Ltd. of Saskatoon will be paving on Highway 1 from Waldeck
to west of Beverley for a total of 24.66 km. They were the lowest of
five bidders at $537,749 on the project which is scheduled to begin May
1 and is planned for completion June 5. Total cost of the project,
including department-supplied materials and resources, is more than
$800,000.

"We are continuing to preserve and improve our highways," Renaud said.
"By creating employment and improving the safety and efficiency of our
highway system we are supporting the development of our economy."
