TEAM SASKATCHEWAN '95 ATHLETES BOUND FOR CANADA WINTER GAMES

Released on February 13, 1995

Municipal Government Minister Carol Carson today introduced the 1995
Team Saskatchewan athletes, coaches and managers who will represent the
province at the Jeux du Canada Games that will be held in Grande
Prairie, Alberta Feb. 19 to March 4.

"I am proud to introduce such an impressive team of Saskatchewan
athletes to you today," Carson said. "The Jeux du Canada Games is the
premier amateur sporting competition to be held in Canada this year.

"The games promote unity and fair play, and provide a stepping stone to
higher levels of national and international competition for our
outstanding athletes. Saskatchewan will be well represented at the
games by these young people."

Team Saskatchewan is comprised of 309 athletes, coaches and managers,
as well as 16 mission staff. The athletes will compete in 24 events in
21 different sports.

The games will involve more than 4,000 athletes, coaches, managers and
officials from across the country.
"The games theme, Capture the Vision, is a very positive one and
reflects the goal of the athletes of Team Saskatchewan," Carson said.
"That is to be the best they can be. The theme also links well with
the overall directions and initiatives of my department to increase
access for all residents of Saskatchewan to sport and recreation
opportunities."
