SaskTel International has landed contracts with the Philippine Long
Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) and the Telecommunications
Corporation of the Philippines (Telic-Phil).
PLDT awarded SaskTel International a $500,000 U.S. consultancy contract
for an in-depth study of PLDT's telephone system expansion project.
Telic-Phil awarded SaskTel International and Montreal-based Teleglobe a
$600,000 U.S. consultancy contract for the design and construction of a
national transmission network.
Carol Teichrob, minister responsible for SaskTel, said these contracts
reaffirm SaskTel's world class reputation in the international
marketplace and its commitment to diversified revenues. "Pursuing
diversified revenues is particularly important in light of increased
competition," she said.
The three-phase PLDT contract, two phases already completed and the
final slated to begin in January, 1996, involves an in-depth study of
PLDT's World Bank Telephone System Expansion Project as well as PLDT's
entire project management process.
The Telic-Phil contract involves designing and constructing the overall
system, developing the business, organizational and management plans
and providing financial advice. SaskTel International will complete
the Telic-Phil contract in nine months, with the potential of SaskTel
International expanding its consultancy role with Telic-Phil.
