HIGH FLOWS IN THE QU'APPELLE RIVER

Released on August 31, 1995

Sask Water today issued a high water advisory for the Qu'Appelle River
and the lakes in the Qu'Appelle system, including Buffalo Pound, Last
Mountain, Echo, Pasqua, Mission, Katepwa, Crooked and Round lakes.

The recent series of heavy rains has resulted in additional runoff
through much of the Qu'Appelle River basin. This runoff has
increased water flows in the river and has led to slightly higher water
levels in all of the lakes in the system. Currently, all the
Qu'Appelle River Valley lakes are near or slightly above their
desirable summer operating levels.

The various lake control structures throughout the Qu'Appelle River
system have been opened, which will result in higher than normal water
levels in the Qu'Appelle River. No flooding of the river bank is
expected, although some low level road crossings may be flooded.

Normal fall water releases from the lakes will continue over the next
two months. These operations will allow the lakes to recede to normal
pre-spring runoff levels in preparation for the 1996 spring runoff.
River flows will continue at current levels or slightly higher into
October.
