Economic Development Minister Dwain Lingenfelter today congratulated
Nu-Fab Building Products Ltd. of Saskatoon on its sale of 50
prefabricated homes to the S.G. Kai Group Ltd. of Japan. Nu-Fab
President and CEO Russell Muzyka learned of the sale while travelling
with Lingenfelter on a trade mission in South America.
"This contract is another example of how Saskatchewan companies, using
Saskatchewan entrepreneurship, Saskatchewan raw materials, and the
province's highly efficient workforce, can compete successfully in the
global marketplace," Lingenfelter said.
Nu-Fab manufactures prefabricated housing packages in Saskatchewan that
are sold in both the national and international markets. The new
contract with the S. G. Kai Group of Japan is valued at $2.5 million.
International sales currently account for 50 per cent of Nu-Fab's total
sales. Since Nu-Fab has entered the international marketplace, the
company's workforce has grown by 30 people and now totals 90 employees.
"The contract with the S. G. Kai Group is a direct result of contacts
made in Japan by Nu-Fab during an earlier government-led trade mission
involving Minister Lingenfelter," Muzyka said, speaking from Santiago,
Chile.
"By participating in government-organized trade missions, private
sector companies such as Nu-Fab are provided the opportunity to meet
with senior-level private sector business people and senior-level
government officials, which facilitates better business deals for the
private sector," Muzyka said. "Our company has instant credibility as
a result of the government's involvement in our meetings.
"We are also very excited about business opportunities that we have
uncovered in South America, particularly in Chile, as a result of our
involvement in the current trade mission.
"In fact, we are actively negotiating with Alvaro Fierro from Rayen
Ltda. of Chile to have Rayen Ltda. operate as Nu-Fab's developer in the
Chilean market. We are also set to begin discussions with a large
mining company, Falconbridge Chile S.A., on supplying several hundred
prefabricated housing units for a new mine site that Falconbridge will
be developing in northern Chile early next year.
"It is unlikely that we would have been provided with this exciting
opportunity had Nu-Fab not joined with the Saskatchewan government on
this trade mission," Muzyka said.
"The Saskatchewan government is very encouraged by Nu-Fab's success in
the international marketplace," Lingenfelter said. "We hope that other
companies operating in Saskatchewan will also be encouraged by this
success and will become more active in the global economy because
Saskatchewan companies can be very successful, and that means more jobs
and a higher standard of living for the people of our province."
