PREMIER CONGRATULATES MASSLOAD TECHNOLOGIES ON EXPANSION

Released on April 6, 1995

Premier Roy Romanow said today the expansion of Massload Technologies
in Saskatoon is a good example of the success that can be achieved by
Saskatchewan's innovative manufacturing companies.

"This expansion and modernization will bolster the remarkable success
that Massload has achieved and enable it to grow even stronger,"
Romanow said. "That will mean more export sales for Saskatchewan and
more jobs for Saskatchewan people."

Massload manufactures load cells, which are the weight-sensing devices
in electronic scales. It also designs and manufactures a full line of
electronic weighing equipment for legal-for-trade applications,
including an on-board weighing system.

The company recently moved into a new building, which is about double
the size of its previous facility. It has also modernized and upgraded
some of its equipment.

Massload has 22 employees and expects to hire 10 more people this year.
The company's sales have doubled over the past year and it has captured
a substantial portion of the Canadian market. It's also exporting to
the United States, China, southeast Asia and South America.
"We want to continue to reduce our reliance on traditional resources
and add value to the Saskatchewan economy," Romanow said. "With
companies like Massload on side, we've had amazing success. In the
manufacturing sector alone, our total value of manufacturing shipments
is up 17 per cent."

Massload president Bill Elliott said sales will increase even more when
the recently-announced Canadian Load Cell Test Facility is established
in Humboldt.

"That facility will be a great benefit for us because it will allow us
to test our products to Canadian and international standards," Elliott
said. "The certifications we receive right in our home province will
give us the credibility we need to expand beyond niche markets and
achieve volume sales in larger markets like the United States and
Europe."
