Grants for Child Care Centres

1. Space Development Capital Funding

The purpose of this funding is to assist with capital requirement to develop a centre. This would include the purchase of a building and any renovation costs.

  • Centres – up to $13,360/space
    • Paid through an agreement prior to centre opening and upon receipt of a budget and timeline for completion

2. Start-Up Grant

The purpose of this grant is to assist with the expenses incurred in opening a new child care centre space (e.g. equipment, furnishings). 

  • Centres - $1,360/space
    • Paid prior to centre opening

3. Early Childhood Services Grant

Assists with the monthly costs of child care centre operations, primarily staff wages and benefits. This represents the major grant to child care centres and supports approximately 30-35 per cent of the operational costs of the centres.

  • This grant translates to the following per space type:
    • $690 per month per infant child care space
    • $414 per month per toddler child care space
    • $207 per month per preschool child care space
    • $138 per month per school-age child care space

4. Early Childhood Services Grant - Northern Centres

Assists with the monthly costs of child care centre operations, primarily staff wages and benefits. This includes funding to support equipment and training in the North.

This grant translates to the following per space type:

  • $720 per month per infant child care space
  • $426 per month per toddler child care space
  • $216 per month per preschool child care space
  • $144 per month per school-age child care space
    • Paid once centre is operational

5. Wage Enhancement Grant

The Wage Enhancement Grant is intended to support the early childhood workforce in child care centres. Amounts vary dependent on Early Childhood Educator certification levels are maximum increases are as follows:

  • ECE I up to $5.50 per hour
  • ECE II up to $7.00 per hour
  • ECE III up to $8.50 per hour
    • Paid once centre is operational

6. Play and Exploration Grant

The Play and Exploration is a one-time grant for new child care centres to purchase equipment and resources to enhance their early learning environments in alignment with the guidelines of Play and Exploration: Early Learning Program Guide. The grant varies by facility and number of spaces:

  • Centres - $2500 for the first 30 spaces and $75 per additional space
    • Paid prior to opening

7. Active Play Grant

Active Play is a one-time grant for new child care centres to purchase equipment and resources that support active play both indoors and outdoors. The grant varies by facility and number of spaces:

  • Centres - $1900 for the first 30 spaces and $60 per additional space
    • Paid prior to opening

8. Parent Fee Reduction Grant

The purpose of this grant is to support the affordability of licensed child care. Saskatchewan families now have access to $10 a day child care for children under the age of six in regulated child care. The province has implemented the grant so facilities can directly reduce child care fees for parents.

  • Amounts paid are dependent on individual program fees
    • Paid once centre is operational based on children enrolled in the program

9. Teen Support Grant

Teen Support Centres, located in or near a high school, recognize the unique circumstances of young parents working to finish high school. In addition to providing no-cost child care services for their children, Teen Support Centres also offer parenting supports. The maximum monthly grants for each space used by teen/young parents completing high school are $810 for infants and $680 for toddlers.

10. Northern Transportation Grant

The purpose of this grant is to assist the centre with the cost of transporting children in northern and remote communities in which public transportation is not available. The distribution of the grant is based on the number of children transported each month in the amount of $20 per child.

11. Individual Inclusion Grant

To assist with the additional cost of supervising a child with diverse needs in an amount not to exceed $300 per month (Level 1 = $200; Level 2 = $250; Level 3 = $300).

12. Enhanced Accessibility Grant

To assist with the additional cost of providing child care services to a child with exceptionally high needs in an amount not to exceed $3,200 per month. The amount of the grant reflects actual costs of additional supports to a maximum of $3,200 per month.

13. Adapted Equipment Grant

To assist with the cost of purchasing adapted equipment required to meet the needs of a child with additional needs in an amount not to exceed $600 in a year, or in exceptional circumstances, $1,200 in a year.

14. Tuition and Book Reimbursement Grant

The Tuition and Book Reimbursement Grant covers up to $500 for books purchased and tuition fees paid with respect to classes in Early Childhood Education that were successfully completed by the licensee or a person employed in a facility.

15. Professional Development Grant

The Professional Development Grant assists child care directors, early childhood educators and child care home providers to attend approved professional learning events. Maximum amounts are based on facility size ranging from $300 for a family child care home to $3,500 for a large centre.
