Tonight, Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Solomon Schofield will invest 10 recipients into the Saskatchewan Order of Merit in recognition of their enduring contributions to Saskatchewan.“In my travels across Saskatchewan, I continue to be amazed and inspired by the inventive, generous, and visionary people of our great province,” Solomon Schofield said. “I’m so pleased we created the Saskatchewan Order of Merit so that we can honour publicly our remarkable citizens such as this year’s outstanding recipients. I congratulate them and thank them for their impressive contributions to our province.”
The 2016 recipients are:
- Jo Anne Bannatyne-Cugnet, Retired Nurse, Author and Business Owner, Weyburn
- Valerie Creighton, President and CEO, Canada Media Fund, Stoughton
- Steve Dechka, Former President and CEO, Canpotex, Singapore and Saskatoon
- Keith Downey, O.C., F.R.S.C., Research Scientist (Emeritus), Okotoks, AB and Saskatoon
- Isabelle Impey, Social Worker and Child Advocate, Prince Albert
- George Lafond, Treaty Commissioner of Saskatchewan, Victoria, BC and Muskeg Lake Cree Nation
- Eldon McIntyre, Businessman, Swift Current
- Wilf Perreault, Artist, Regina
- Gordon Rawlinson, C.M., CEO, Rawlco Radio, Calgary, AB and Waskesiu Lake
The Saskatchewan Order of Merit was created to recognize individuals for outstanding and enduring social, cultural and economic contributions to our province and its people. It acknowledges those who have excelled in the arts, agriculture, business, industry, community leadership, occupations, professions, public service, research and volunteer service. Including the 10 new members, there have been 219 appointments to the Order of Merit since its inception in 1985.
