The Legislative District Security Unit (LDSU) is a specialized security unit responsible for safeguarding the Saskatchewan Legislative Building, elected officials, staff and guests.

Legislative District Security Unit officers operate at the intersection of protective services, public sensitivity and democratic integrity.

Working in a setting that is dynamic, politically sensitive and operationally unique, LDSU officers provide:

  • an armed security presence at the Saskatchewan Legislative Building;
  • response to imminent threat;
  • guest screening, including X-ray and metal detection by building security;
  • implementation and enforcement of security policies and procedures; and
  • review of security threat and risk assessment.

The unit values experience, critical thinking and calm decision-making. It supports ongoing training and professional development.

2. Become an LDSU Officer

Qualifications

To become an LDSU officer, you must:

  • be legally entitled to work in Canada at the time you apply for a position;
  • have a First Aid CPR AED certificate valid for at least one year after the date of application;
  • have a valid Class 5 driver’s licence;
  • be authorized and able to carry a firearm;
  • successfully complete the Provincial Firearms Qualification Standard, Use of Force training, OC Spray, and expandable baton training;
  • pass psychological testing, background checks and obtain enhanced security clearance;
  • complete position-specific training; and
  • be willing to work varied shifts, including extended hours.
