Saskatchewan Lieutenant Governor Scholarship

The Saskatchewan Lieutenant Governor Scholarship is a $20,000 scholarship awarded annually based on academic excellence to graduate and post-graduate students in any field of study at the University of Saskatchewan or University of Regina.

1. Benefits

This $20,000 scholarship benefits graduate and post-graduate students and can go towards any expenses needed to meet your academic goals, including but not limited to:

  • Tuition and books
  • Living expenses
  • Travel

2. Eligibility

Every candidate must:

  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person;
  • reside in Saskatchewan for the duration of their graduate or post-graduate studies. Any research involving out-of-province fieldwork is only permitted by maintaining a principal residence in Saskatchewan;
  • have an undergraduate degree in any discipline (at the time of commencement of the scholarship);
  • have applied for admission or be enrolled in graduate or post-graduate studies for the upcoming academic year in any field of study at either the University of Saskatchewan or the University of Regina; and
  • have applied for a thesis or non-thesis (project-based) program. Note – course-based programs are not eligible.

Preference will be given to students in fields of study that support the Saskatchewan’s Growth Plan and address complex challenges that impact the citizens of Saskatchewan.

Preference will also be given to applicants who are in the early stage of their degree or have not received other substantial awards.

3. How To Apply

In addition to the completed application form, applicants need to provide the following documents:

  • A one-page outline of your thesis or project topic or area of major research you intend to pursue for your graduate or post-graduate studies;
  • Official transcripts from ALL universities attended, including transcripts where you received transfer credit;
  • Two signed Letter of Reference Forms (one for each reference) along with two letters of reference (see instructions below); and
  • The completed application form, to the Saskatchewan university where you have applied for your graduate or post-graduate studies.

The two reference letters are to be from persons who can critically assess your intellectual and scholarly strengths (potential and demonstrated), as well as your personal qualifications, strengths and achievements that, collectively, describe the exceptional attributes suited for this scholarship. At least one of the letters must be from a current or former university professor. The letters (together with the Letter of Reference Forms) must be received directly from the person making the reference.

In the event of two equally deserving applicants, the award will be split equally between these candidates.
