Government of Saskatchewan Supports and Participates in Aquatic Invasive Species Summit

Released on March 27, 2026

The Government of Saskatchewan is proud to participate in the upcoming Aquatic Invasive Species Summit, hosted in collaboration with the Pacific North West Economic Region (PNWER), which will take place in Saskatoon on March 27, 2026.

The summit will bring together government officials, industry leaders and stakeholder organizations from across western Canada and the PNWER region to strengthen collaboration and advance efforts to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species (AIS). Discussions will focus on enhancing watercraft inspection programs, strengthening regional response to high-risk watercraft and exploring innovative tools and partnerships to protect waterways.

"Protecting Saskatchewan's waters from aquatic invasive species is one of our highest environmental priorities," Environment Minister Darlene Rowden said. "The Aquatic Invasive Species Summit is an important opportunity to work alongside our regional and international partners to strengthen watercraft inspection programs and share best practices. By working together, we can continue to keep high-risk invasive species out of Saskatchewan waters."

Saskatchewan remains free from several high-risk aquatic invasive species; however, ongoing prevention efforts are critical to maintaining this status. The public plays a vital role in preventing the spread of AIS and are reminded to clean, drain and dry all watercraft and equipment after each use, and to stop at inspection stations when travelling with any type of watercraft.

The Government of Saskatchewan continues to work with regional and international partners to prevent the introduction and spread of aquatic invasive species. By strengthening inspection programs and increasing public awareness, Saskatchewan is taking proactive steps to protect our waters for future generations.
