Saskatchewan Reinforces Trade Relationships in China

Released on June 1, 2026

Ongoing engagement is vital to strengthen trade partnership with China.

Trade and Export Development Minister Warren Kaeding is leading a mission to China to bolster trade and promote Saskatchewan's strategic interests in agriculture.

While in market, the minister's priority is to strengthen relationships with companies that have resumed purchasing Saskatchewan's canola, peas and beef products, following tariff reductions achieved during Premier Scott Moe's January mission to China.

"We understand that ongoing dialogue with China underpins trust and understanding between our jurisdictions," Kaeding said. "That's why Saskatchewan has been present in China for close to two decades. As we continue to prioritize our relationship, I am excited to highlight the vital role we can play in supporting the country's food and energy security."

As a part of the mission, the delegation will meet with private companies, business leaders, post-secondary institutions and government officials from China. Meetings will take place in Beijing, as well as the provinces of Jilin and Guangdong. In 1984, Saskatchewan and Jilin Province established themselves as sister provinces.

"Our government is proud to have Jilin as a sister province," Kaeding said. "This mission is a great opportunity to reignite our longstanding relationship and further explore the opportunities that exist between our two regions, for the benefit of citizens both in Saskatchewan and China."

Saskatchewan is proud to be the consistent ally and reliable supplier the world needs to ensure food and energy security.

The Government of Saskatchewan has built a network of nine international trade and investment offices, including one in China, to prioritize strengthening existing trade relationships while exploring new markets. These offices help make the province more resilient to market risks such as tariffs and regulatory trade barriers.

As a province that exports 70 per cent of what it produces, trading relationships are crucial. The province's international engagement efforts have proven invaluable in attracting buyers and investment from around the world.

The mission will run from May 30 to June 6, 2026.
