Correctional Services Appreciation Day

Released on May 7, 2024

The Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed May 7, 2024, as Correctional Services Appreciation Day.

Correctional staff work every day to provide custody, supervision as well as rehabilitation services to both adult and youth offenders in Saskatchewan. Correctional positions encompass a broad range of expertise, programs and positions that collectively work together to rehabilitate offenders, decrease reoffending, and maintain safety in provincial correctional facilities.

"Correctional employees take on challenging work every day to maintain safety in our correctional facilities and improve the lives of people in custody," Corrections, Policing and Public Safety Minister Paul Merriman said. "Today we acknowledge the invaluable contributions these hard-working staff make to our communities and province."

There are approximately 2,200 provincial correctional officers, facility youth workers and probation officers and community youth workers across the province of Saskatchewan.

To mark Correctional Services Appreciation Day, Minister Merriman will introduce employees representing their facilities and offices in the Legislative Assembly. Minister Merriman will also be handing out the Minister's Award for Excellence to acknowledge outstanding work in corrections.

Each correctional facility or community corrections office will also hold an appreciation event for staff.
