This morning, Lieutenant Governor Russ Mirasty presented ten worthy individuals with the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal during a ceremony at Government House. One medal was presented posthumously and another will be presented at a later date.
"Volunteers improve the lives of others and strengthen our province," Lieutenant Governor Russ Mirasty said. "I am grateful to each recipient for their inspiring community service."
The recipients of the 2020 Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal are:
- Lieutenant-Colonel (Ret'd) Robert Cade, CD (posthumous), Regina
- Anne Chase, Regina
- Peggy George, Melfort
- Derek Harrison, Fort Qu'Appelle
- Ken Hartz, Bradwell
- Eileen Herman, Qu'Appelle
- Frank McDougall, Saskatoon
- Jean de Dieu Ndayahundwa, Regina
- Leela Sharma, Saskatoon
- Lorraine Silzer, Assiniboia
- Richard Strayer, Saskatoon
- Bernice Woolhouse, Assiniboia (medal will be presented at a later date)
Since its establishment in 1995, the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal has been awarded to extraordinary citizens across the province for their outstanding contributions to Saskatchewan. Today's recipients join the ranks of 228 exemplary volunteers recognized in previous years.
Nominations are now open for the 2021 Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal. Individuals and organizations are encouraged to nominate current or former long-term residents of Saskatchewan who go above and beyond for their community through acts of volunteerism. Nominations will be received until October 18, 2021.
