Today, Health Minister Jim Reiter on behalf of Social Services Minister Paul Merriman, joined community members, dignitaries and day program participants to celebrate the grand opening of a new day program building in Rosetown.The Government of Saskatchewan provides more than $1.2 million in annual funding to Wheatland Regional Centre to provide supports for people with intellectual disabilities. Funding of $824,000 was provided for the construction of the new day program.
“This day program building will support up to 24 people in our community,” Reiter said. “I want to thank Wheatland Regional Centre for their dedication to people with intellectual disabilities and the great supports they provide.”
Since 1972, Wheatland Regional Centre has been supporting people with intellectual disabilities through residential supports and day programming.
“This is an exciting time for the participants and staff here at Wheatland,” Wheatland Regional Centre Executive Director Denni Ernst said. “Our facilities have been a part of the community for many years, and we look forward to continued community involvement. The funding for the construction comes at a pivotal time for our organization. I am very pleased to be a part of the transition.”
This day program supports the Saskatchewan Disability Strategy by providing access to personal supports for people with disabilities. Saskatchewan residents and communities that have done work that aligns with the Disability Strategy are encouraged to share their accomplishments using the hashtag #SKDisability.
