Today, Social Services Minister Paul Merriman joined community members, dignitaries and group home residents in Saskatoon to celebrate the grand opening of two new Eden Care Communities group homes.In total, the two newly renovated homes will support nine people in a group home setting and three more people in a supported independent living setting.
“I’d like to thank Eden Care for the important part they play in creating inclusive communities,” Merriman said. “Our community partners are vital for ensuring we have the right supports for people with disabilities across the province.”
Eden Care has been supporting people since 1950. The government provides Eden Care with more than $3.7 million annually to help support people with intellectual disabilities.
“Our goal is to offer opportunities for individuals and families to live their best life, a life worth living with meaning, purpose and choice,” Eden Care Communities CEO Alan Stephen said. “Connecting people to the community, through homes like this, ensures a life without limits for people living with diverse abilities.”
These new group homes support the Saskatchewan Disability Strategy by creating residential services for people with disabilities. Saskatchewan residents and communities that have done work that aligns with the Disability Strategy are encouraged to share their accomplishments using the hashtag #SKDisability.
