Today, Regina Rochdale MLA Laura Ross on behalf of Social Services Minister Paul Merriman, celebrated the grand opening of a new Clare Parker Homes group home.The group home will be home to five people with intellectual disabilities. The government provided more than $386,000 in annual funding to support the five residents.
“Group homes play a vital role in making our community a diverse and inclusive place,” Ross said. “I’d like to thank Clare Parker Homes for their work in supporting people with intellectual disabilities in Regina.”
The government provides $3.88 million in annual funding to Clare Parker Homes to provide residential supports for people with intellectual disabilities. They operate a variety of group homes, a supported independent living program and provide day program services.
“The replacement of this home has brought much joy to the families and the residents of the home,” Clare Parker Homes Executive Director Rosa Smith said. “With the new house, it allows us to fulfill our mission of providing high quality supported living options for individual with intellectual disabilities; to live interdependently as a family, in a mutually respectful and caring environment within their community.”
This new group home supports the Saskatchewan Disability Strategy by creating residential services for people with disabilities. Saskatchewan residents and communities that have done work that aligns with the Disability Strategy are encouraged to share their accomplishments using the hashtag #SKDisability.
