Saskatchewan Celebrating Adoption Awareness Month

Released on November 1, 2019

The Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed November as Adoption Awareness Month to celebrate Saskatchewan’s adoptive families.

“Adoption plays a vital role in the future of our province by providing children with the love and stability they need to flourish,” Social Services Minister Paul Merriman said.  “The Adoption Support Centre of Saskatchewan is an important partner in providing pre-and post-adoption information and services for families involved in the adoption process in Saskatchewan.  I want to thank the Adoption Support Centre for their commitment to the many children and families who are connected to adoption.”

Earlier today, Minister Merriman attended the launch of the Adoption Support Centre’s new website and logo, as well as a celebration of the expansion of their space.  The new website will allow the organization to provide updated adoption information to the children and families they serve.  The expansion of their space will allow them to hire more staff and expand programming.

“This is an exciting time for the Adoption Support Centre and what better time to launch our new logo and website than the first day of Adoption Awareness Month,” Adoption Support Centre of Saskatchewan Executive Director Sylvia Cholodnuik said.  “Six out of ten individuals are connected by adoption in some way during their lifetime.  By working together, we will be able to better meet the needs of all those connected to adoption, whether they be birth parents, adoptive parents or adoptees.”

The Adoption Support Centre of Saskatchewan began in the 1980s as a group of adoptive parents providing support to one another.  It has since grown into a province-wide information service that provides referrals, resources and pre- and post-adoption support relating to domestic, international, private, birth parent, step-parent and adult adoptions.

Anyone interested in learning more about adoption is encouraged to call the Adoption Support Centre of Saskatchewan at 1-866-869-2727 or visit www.adoptionsask.org.
