Province to Celebrate Archives Week

Released on February 1, 2018

The Provincial Archives of Saskatchewan, in partnership with the Saskatchewan Council for Archives and Archivists (SCAA), is pleased to celebrate Archives Week from February 4 to 10, 2018.

“Archives week provides an excellent opportunity to look back on the rich history of our province," Minister Responsible for the Provincial Archives of Saskatchewan Christine Tell said. "The important work of our archivists connects us to the legacy of past generations, as well as to those who will shape the future of our province."

Bushwakker Brewpub is hosting an event in the capital city on February 7. “The Regina that Never Was,” guest speakers will discuss building projects and plans that never came to fruition, highlighting interesting archival resources from the Provincial Archives and other collections.

In Saskatoon, the “Night at the Roxy: Archival Variety Show” will feature readings and archival film from several Saskatoon archives, and a special presentation of the fourth film in the Provincial Archives’ First World War video series, “From the Prairies to the Trenches.” The show takes place on the evening of February 8 at 320- 20th Street West.

“My colleagues and I at the Provincial Archives are delighted to partner with other archives during this week,” Provincial Archivist Linda McIntyre said. “The records featured in these events are only a snapshot of all that archives have to offer to the people of Saskatchewan.”

“We are especially excited this year to see so many events planned for Archives Week, and to support archival institutions in promoting our province’s history,” Jeremy Mohr, President of the SCAA said.

In addition to the events in Regina various archival organizations are holding events in the communities of Humboldt, Air Ronge, Lloydminster, Melfort, Moose Jaw, North Battleford, Bellevue and Whitewood.
