Saskatchewan Celebrates School Bus Driver Appreciation Day

Deputy Premier and Education Minister Don Morgan has proclaimed October 17 as School Bus Driver Appreciation Day in Saskatchewan.  Celebrated since 2010, School Bus Driver Appreciation Day is observed on the first day of Education Week, October 16 – 22, to recognize the important role that school bus drivers play in safely transporting students to and from school.

“The safety of Saskatchewan students is always our top priority and our province’s school bus drivers deserve to be recognized and celebrated for their role in ensuring student safety,” Morgan said.  “I encourage parents, students and school staff to take some time today to acknowledge our bus drivers for their important work and dedication to our students.”

The Student Transportation Association of Saskatchewan (STAS) represents the individuals who drive students to school on behalf of Saskatchewan school divisions.

“Our school bus drivers in Saskatchewan transport the most precious passengers in the world and do an excellent job,” STAS President Nick Koturbash said.  “Our province’s unpredictable weather can make this a challenging job but our drivers are very dedicated to ensuring that each student makes it to school and back home safely every time.  School bus drivers are known for greeting children with a smile every day and so, today is a great day for us to take a moment to acknowledge their important work.”

Education Week and Bus Driver Appreciation Day are an opportunity to recognize student achievement and the dedication of teachers, bus drivers, education assistants, administrative personnel, library technicians, custodians and maintenance workers.
