The Government of Saskatchewan is proclaiming May 31-June 6 as Saskatchewan Tourism Week, coinciding with Tourism Week in Canada, which brings attention to the significance of the country’s tourism sector and the economic opportunities available through travel and tourism.In Saskatchewan, tourism expenditures exceed $2.12 billion annually, and more than 12.5 million visits are made to and within the province. Approximately 57,000 residents are employed in tourism or tourism-related jobs.
"Saskatchewan Tourism Week brings profile to our province’s dynamic industry that contributes significantly to our strong, diversified economy," Minister responsible for Tourism Saskatchewan Jeremy Harrison said. "This is a week to recognize and thank all Saskatchewan people who work in our tourism sector, known the world over for remarkable hospitality and experiences that impress and inspire travellers."
"Tourism Saskatchewan appreciates the efforts in dozens of communities throughout the province to organize special Saskatchewan Tourism Week events," Tourism Saskatchewan CEO Mary Taylor-Ash said. "These occasions acknowledge the importance of our industry, bring attention to Saskatchewan’s wealth of tourism assets and highlight the entrepreneurial spirit that drives the sector. A vibrant tourism industry provides wide-reaching benefits. Destinations that are interesting and welcoming are not only great places to visit, but are also great places to live."
