The Government of Saskatchewan has signed a renewed Gas Tax Agreement with the Government of Canada, which will provide $56.3 million to municipalities for infrastructure projects in 2014-15.“The renewed Gas Tax Fund provides a source of revenue for Saskatchewan municipalities to address their priority infrastructure projects, such as building roads and improving water and sewage treatment,” Government Relations Minister Jim Reiter said.
“These projects help build vibrant communities and improve the quality of life for all Saskatchewan people. I want to thank the Government of Canada for providing a source of long-term, stable funding to Saskatchewan municipalities during this time of growth in our province.”
The agreement is for a period of ten years, with $292.7 million earmarked for Saskatchewan municipalities over the first five years of the program. Under the renewed agreement, there are more eligible project categories for infrastructure funding, including regional and local airports, disaster mitigation, broadband connectivity and culture, tourism, sport and recreation infrastructure.
