More than 800 groups and organizations across the province will benefit from approximately $1.4 million in charitable gaming grants distributed by the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA).“These grants will provide a financial boost to a number of important projects and programs in communities across the province,” Minister responsible for SLGA Donna Harpauer said. “Our government is pleased to provide financial support to the groups and organizations who work hard to enhance their communities by volunteering their time for others.”
Among the grants provided by SLGA this quarter: Yorkton and surrounding area received $104,480; Moose Jaw and surrounding area: $97,483; Lloydminster and surrounding area: $63,442; Humboldt and surrounding area: $49,034 and Swift Current and surrounding area: $46,703.
Groups that raise funds through licensed charitable gaming (bingo, raffles, breakopen ticket sales, Texas Hold ‘em poker and Monte Carlo events) receive a quarterly grant equal to 25 per cent of net proceeds raised through these activities. Groups that conduct licensed charitable gaming activities and events do not have to apply for the charitable gaming grant. Charitable gaming reports submitted by groups and organizations are used by SLGA to calculate grants.
