December's Average Weekly Earnings Improve

Released on February 27, 2014

There was good news for Saskatchewan workers in December as average weekly earnings rose by 3.6 per cent compared to last December, the third largest wage increase in the nation.  Average earnings in the province climbed to $965.74 during December.

“There are a number of positive spill over effects to the broader economy when wages go up,” Economy Minister Bill Boyd said.  “Consumer confidence rises, retail spending increases, and overall quality of life improves for Saskatchewan workers and their families.”

On a month-to-month basis, Saskatchewan’s wages were up by 0.9 per cent, the same as the national average.  Saskatchewan has had month-to-month increases for eight of the past 12 months.

“These steady increases are important,” Boyd said.  “It means the hard working people of this province are being rewarded for their efforts, and we are fairly confident that trend will continue this year.”
