Unlicensed Motor Dealer Fined $10,000

Released on December 9, 2014

On November 24, guilty pleas were entered on behalf of Athforth Holdings Ltd. in Prince Albert.  The pleas resulted in $10,000 in fines against the company for violations of The Motor Dealer’s Act.

After receiving complaints from consumers, the Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority Consumer Protection Division launched an investigation which led to legal proceedings and charges.

George Yannacoulias, the owner and operator of PA Autobrokers, and his company, Athforth Holdings Ltd. were both charged with 54 counts of operating without a motor dealer licence and representing one’s self as being a licensed motor dealer without a valid licence.

A joint submission was made to the judge by the Crown and defence.  Athforth entered guilty pleas to 20 counts of operating without a motor dealer licence.  The charges against Yannacoulias were withdrawn.

In 2008, the Athfort Holdings Ltd. motor dealer licence was cancelled for violations of The Weights and Measures Act.

Yannacoulias and Athforth are currently not licensed to sell motor vehicles in Saskatchewan.
