Saskatoon’s young men and women who wish to break free of street gangs now have more support with the Government of Saskatchewan’s $49,500 investment in the non-profit organization STR8 UP – 10,000 Little Steps to Healing Inc.
“We are excited about the opportunity to work with STR8 UP to engage and mobilize the community around anti-gang programming and seek out non-traditional partnerships,” Corrections and Policing Minister Christine Tell said. “STR8 UP will focus on prevention and early intervention as well as assist with rehabilitation.”
“STR8 UP is a grass roots organization that is driven by the STR8 UP members themselves,” STR8 UP President Stan Tu’Inukuafe said. “As our name states, it can take 10,000 little steps to make changes in one’s life and the STR8 UP members and board are excited and grateful that the ministry has now partnered with STR8 UP to take steps forward together.”
STR8 UP helps to build healthy families, teaches life skills and provides the support needed to become responsible citizens. This seed money will be used to fund the resources needed to create local and regional funding partnerships to help support STR8 UP and its initiatives.
