PINE GROVE CORRECTIONAL CENTRE EXPANSION OPENS

Released on October 30, 2013

The Pine Grove Correctional Centre, the only correctional centre for women in Saskatchewan, officially opened the doors to a new 30-cell living unit that can accommodate up to 60 beds.  This two-year capital project began in 2011 at a total cost of $13.4 million over two years.

“The ministry takes the safety of staff, inmates, visitors and the public seriously,” Corrections and Policing Minister Christine Tell said.  “This new unit will help promote safety by adding new beds, incorporating a more modern design and adding new infrastructure to our correctional system.”

The design of the living unit includes three separate pods, each of which has 10 cells, a six cell medical pod and a video court.  The living unit is designed for direct supervision with interview room and program components integral to each pod.
