FOURTH ANNUAL AGRICULTURE SCHOLARSHIP

Released on October 29, 2013

Today, Agriculture Minister Lyle Stewart announced the fourth annual Saskatchewan Agriculture Student Scholarship.

“With a growing global demand for food comes a high demand for young people of all backgrounds to grow, process and market that food,” Stewart said.  “Young people should be excited about a future in agriculture and this scholarship gives applicants a chance to explore this thriving industry.”

One winning scholarship valued at $4,000 and three runner-up scholarships valued at $2,000 each will be awarded to students in Grade 12 and recent graduates entering agriculture-related post-secondary studies in 2014.

Those interested in the scholarship must produce a three minute creative video or write a well-researched, fact-based 1,000 word essay that showcases one of four themes: agriculture solutions for a growing world, farmers and ranchers as environmental stewards, safe food that is responsibly produced or agriculture as a modern, forward-looking industry.

Applications will be accepted until March 1, 2014.  Winning submissions will be posted on the ministry website in the spring.  For more information on the Saskatchewan Agriculture Student Scholarship, visit www.agriculture.gov.sk.ca/scholarship.
