$4.9 MILLION RENOVATION COMPLETED FOR BALCARRES COMMUNITY SCHOOL

Released on October 15, 2013

Today, Last-Mountain-Touchwood MLA Glen Hart on behalf of Education Minister Don Morgan joined students, teachers, members of the community and representatives from the Prairie Valley School Division to celebrate the completion of a major addition and renovation of Balcarres Community School.  The $4.9 million renovation was completed in August, after five years of construction.  The government contributed approximately $2.2 million to the project.

“As our communities grow, so does the need for quality school space,” Hart said.  “This project is an excellent example of infrastructure meeting the changing needs of our students.”

The upgraded facility includes the relocation and expansion of the library, a new front entrance and foyer, and the creation of a community Elder Conference Room, built with special ventilation to accommodate smudge ceremonies.

“Infrastructure renewal is a key priority for the Board,” Prairie Valley Board of Education Chair Janet Kotylak said.  “This multi-phase project is a great example of how all the partners in education – at the provincial, school division and local levels – can work together for the benefit of students.”

Since November 2007, the Government of Saskatchewan has committed approximately $600 million toward 43 major school capital projects and approximately 900 additional smaller school capital projects across the province.
