REDVERS CELEBRATES LONG-TERM CARE WING GRAND OPENING

Released on October 10, 2013

Government Improving Long-Term Care Infrastructure

Residents of Redvers and area will benefit from a new modern health care facility.  Rural and Remote Health Minister Randy Weekes joined local residents at a grand opening ceremony to celebrate the completion of the new long-term care addition at the Redvers Health Centre.

Local municipal leaders and members of the Sun Country Health Region and its board were also in attendance for this milestone event.

“We are very pleased to celebrate this new facility’s grand opening,” Weekes said.  “This is an exciting day for Redvers and area residents who will benefit from this new long-term care addition.  It’s another example of our commitment to patient- and family-centred care, as we continue to improve health care infrastructure in the province.”

The new addition to the Redvers Health Centre accommodates 23 long-term care beds and one multi-purpose bed.  The health centre also offers a range of other health care services, including therapies, mental health and dietitian services.

“This new facility offers a great opportunity for us to provide a wheelchair-accessible, home-like environment for the residents,” Sun Country Health Region President and CEO Marga Cugnet said.  “The division of the new wing into two houses of 12 rooms each is specifically designed to provide surroundings that more closely reflect the size and environment of a home rather than an institution.”

Residents moved into the new long-term care wing during the summer.

The provincial government, Redvers and District Community Health Foundation, and area municipalities together invested $13.1 million in the new long-term care addition and renovation to the Redvers Health Centre building.  The provincial share is $10.4 million.  The project is one of thirteen long-term care facility renewals previously announced by the government.

As part of its ongoing commitment to seniors, government also recently invested $10 million in a long-term care Urgent Issues Action Fund to improve quality of care in long-term care facilities.  The funding will address issues identified by health region CEOs and senior leaders during tours of long-term care facilities that took place across the province earlier this year.
