With assistance from the Government of Saskatchewan, Slingshot Residential Inc. is constructing three homes for North Central Regina families using an innovative foundation system.
The Government of Saskatchewan, through Saskatchewan Housing Corporation (SHC), contributed $93,630 to the initiative from the provincial Summit Action Fund.
“We are pleased to work with Slingshot Residential Inc. and their partners to increase housing supply in Regina,” Regina Dewdney MLA Gene Makowsky said on behalf of Social Services Minister and Minister responsible for Saskatchewan Housing Corporation June Draude. “This project demonstrates creativity and innovation in housing, as well as the public and private partnerships required to make it a reality. Most importantly, we are working together to build a better life for all Saskatchewan people, which is what the Saskatchewan Plan for Growth is all about.”
“We see an opportunity to use technology to lower construction costs while producing a higher quality home,” Slingshot Residential Project Manager Rob Sentis said. “The Multipoint foundation system is a key part of our strategy. Our goal is to facilitate community revitalization by building homes that provide dignity and stability for owners.”
The first residential Multipoint system was erected in two days at 961 Retallack Street. Two more Multipoint systems are to be constructed at 1060 Cameron Street and 1523 Rae Street. The Multipoint foundation system was first developed for use in Canada’s Arctic to address the degradation associated with concrete basements in permafrost conditions. Slingshot Residential Inc. saw an opportunity to use the system locally because of existing soil conditions. More information on the Multipoint foundation can be found at www.slingshotresidential.com.
Slingshot Residential was co-founded by Rob Sentis and Ken Watson, a long-term resident of North Central Regina. Slingshot Residential involves owners in the construction process to increase affordability and is actively looking for new owners.
The Summit Action Fund is designed to increase housing supply across the province, and is funded by the Government of Saskatchewan through Saskatchewan Housing Corporation. Announced in April 2011, a total of $6 million has been made available to encourage housing stakeholders to propose creative housing solutions that are not currently covered by existing housing programs.
