Repaving and culvert installations are among more than $6 million in repairs underway on a damaged stretch of Highway 2 north of Prince Albert.
Higher than average spring runoff and heavy rains saw the affected area closed to light traffic for more than a month this summer as water flowed over the highway. Heavy truck traffic continued to pass through the area during the flood.
“Now that the flood water has subsided, we will be able to fully repair and strengthen this important passageway to the north,” Highways and Infrastructure Minister Don McMorris said. “The new culverts will help to ensure water flows safely under the road, while the new pavement will provide a strong, smooth driving surface.”
The repairs include about 14 km of repaving from just north of the junction of Highway 2 and Highway 355 to the south, as well as culvert installations. An extra layer of pavement will also be added to restore strength in the flood-affected area.
Motorists should be prepared to slow to 60 km/hr through the work zone. Traffic will be reduced to one lane at times during construction.
