SASKATCHEWAN HONOURS SEA, ARMY AND AIR CADETS

Released on October 1, 2013

Provincial Military Liaison D.F. (Yogi) Huyghebaert will participate in a number of upcoming events to present certificates and pins to cadets as he visits the top Saskatchewan Cadet Corps and Squadrons being recognized this year for excellence and service in their communities.

“The cadet program helps young people build self-confidence as it instills the values of loyalty to country and service to community,” Huyghebaert said.  “This government believes in recognizing achievement and I want to congratulate all the recipients for their accomplishments.”

This year's recipients are:

  • #45 Jervis Bay Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps, Saskatoon;
  • #2293 The North Saskatchewan Regiment Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps, Saskatoon; and
  • #702 Lynx Squadron Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron, Saskatoon.

The province announced an annual recognition of the top Sea, Army and Air Cadet Units in 2009 to celebrate the history of the cadet program as well as the good work being carried out across the province by its members.

Currently, Saskatchewan has more than 2,300 youth enrolled in more than 64 Sea, Army and Air Cadet Corps and Squadrons.  The Saskatchewan cadet program accepts youth between the ages of 12 to 18, and teaches citizenship, personal discipline, as well as general military knowledge.  To learn more about cadets or find your local contact visit, www.cadets.ca/.

Lieutenant-Colonel Huyghebaert was a pilot with the Royal Canadian Air Force and is currently the Honourary Colonel of 2 Canadian Forces Flying Training School at 15 Wing Moose Jaw and MLA for Wood River.
