This spring, Information Services Corporation (ISC) will be honouring 355 families with an ISC Century Family Farm Award. The award recognizes families who have continuously maintained the same farm or ranch operation for 100 years or more.
“Families who reach the 100-year milestone should be very proud of their achievement,” ISC President and CEO Jeff Stusek said. “ISC values the family farming tradition as it is passed down from one generation to the next. Some of the farms being recognized this year are being run by the great-great-grandchildren of the original homesteaders.”
As the safekeeper of important historical documents like land grants and titles, geographic maps and photos, and survey information, ISC celebrates the history of the province. ISC manages the Land Registry of Saskatchewan, which dates back to 1886. The registry contains every land title in the province. The registry also houses the original land grants and titles issued to many of the settlers who came to Saskatchewan in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The ISC Century Family Farm Awards are one way that ISC celebrates the rich history of the province and gives back to Saskatchewan people. By the time this year’s program wraps up, ISC will have awarded 3,289 farm families since 2007.
Three celebratory luncheons to honour 2013 recipients will take place at noon in:
- Regina – Monday, May 27 (Convention Hall at Conexus Arts Centre)
- Swift Current – Tuesday, May 28 (Auditorium at Credit Union iPlex)
- Saskatoon – Thursday, May 30 (Butler Byers Century Hall at Western Development Museum)
All recipient families receive a free reproduction of their family’s original land grant or title and their choice of a free indoor wall plaque or cedar gate sign at a reduced price.
