Today, Agriculture Minister Lyle Stewart announced the winners of the 2013 Saskatchewan Agriculture Student Scholarship. Ten students from across the province will each receive a $1,000 scholarship to help pay for their agriculture-related post-secondary education.
“More than 50,000 people are employed in agriculture in Saskatchewan,” Stewart said. “The opportunities in our vibrant sector are increasing and it is important that youth know about and consider careers in agriculture. The students selected for this scholarship show real potential and have bright futures in the industry.”
Applicants were asked to produce a three-minute creative video or write a well-researched 750-word essay describing why agriculture, now more than ever, is a vibrant, diverse industry. They also provided letters of recommendation from a teacher, agriculture industry leader or community leader.
The winners of the scholarship are:
- Kaitlyn Polegi, Jedburgh
- Samantha McKee, Turtleford
- Bethany Harland, Frenchman Butte
- Sheldon Moellenbeck, Humboldt
- Sydney Lake, Turtleford
- Ryan Olson, Penzance
- Bailey Wilson, Tugaske
