DISCONTINUATION OF THREE UNDER-UTILIZED STC ROUTES APPROVED

Released on May 9, 2013

The Saskatchewan Transportation Company (STC) received notice from the Highway Traffic Board (HTB), that the request to discontinue three under-utilized routes was approved.  This announcement comes at the end of a 90-day review process for HTB.

Blaine Lake-North Battleford was approved for immediate discontinuation and will see passenger and freight service ended as of May 18, 2013.

Regina-Lanigan was approved for discontinuation as of January 1, 2014.

Eastend-Swift Current/Mossbank was approved for discontinuation as of January 1, 2014.

All three routes that have been discontinued averaged two or fewer passengers per trip over the past five years.  Overall, these cuts will save STC $300,000 annually.
