Spouses and dependants of Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members relocating interprovincially will now receive immediate basic Saskatchewan health coverage.
Amendments to The Medical Care Insurance Beneficiary and Administration Regulations have waived the 90-day waiting period for Saskatchewan health coverage for CAF family members relocating from another province or territory.
“This move is in keeping with other provinces and territories which have already implemented this change,” Health Minister Dustin Duncan said. “It also means less interprovincial billings for Saskatchewan health service providers. We are committed to streamlining processes and services in the health system to better serve our patients.”
“I am pleased to see the efforts of our government to make relocation a bit easier for Canadian Armed Forces families,” Military Liaison D.F. (Yogi) Huyghebaert said.
This change does not affect CAF family members returning to Saskatchewan from abroad, as they have always been eligible for provincial health coverage immediately following their arrival in Saskatchewan.
Prior to the amendment, CAF family members moving interprovincially would still receive provincial coverage during the 90-day waiting period from the province and territory they were relocating from.
