SCHOOL SAFETY PATROL WEEK CELEBRATED

Released on May 3, 2013

Today at Regina’s Core Ritchie Neighbourhood Centre, Education Minister Russ Marchuk faced off with Canadian Olympian and CAA National School Safety Patrol Ambassador, Jennifer Botterill, to celebrate School Safety Patrol Week in Saskatchewan.  Marchuk proclaimed April 29 - May 5, 2013 as School Safety Patrol Week in Saskatchewan to recognize more than 4,500 patrollers in the province.

“Proclaiming this week allows the Government of Saskatchewan to recognize and commend Safety Patrollers for volunteering their time to ensure the safety of the members of their community and their fellow students when crossing the street,” Marchuk said.  “I would also like to thank CAA for supporting the School Safety Patrol program throughout the years, as their commitment to the well being of our youth and the citizens of Saskatchewan is greatly appreciated.”

Safety Patrollers, along with chaperones, are in Regina to attend the 23rd Annual Provincial School Safety Patrol Jamboree, which is taking place from May 2 to 4.

“We are proud to help honour these very deserving young people who are sharing their knowledge of pedestrian and traffic safety,” CAA Saskatchewan Board of Directors Past Chair Dr. William Elliott said.

The Jamboree, hosted by CAA Saskatchewan, is held annually to recognize and thank the school safety patrollers for their valued volunteer time, effort and dedication to their communities.
