The Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) is moving forward with plans to relocate and expand its liquor distribution warehouse in Regina.
“As our province continues to grow, the volume of sales at SLGA stores and the more than 600 private retailers across the province also continues to increase,” Minister responsible for SLGA Donna Harpauer said. “SLGA’s current warehouse has outgrown its capacity and can no longer meet these growing demands.”
The new liquor distribution centre will be built at the Global Transportation Hub (GTH). SLGA will join the growing list of rail, trucking, distribution and manufacturing facilities that are setting up shop at the 1,700 acre site.
“Locating the new liquor distribution centre at the GTH makes a lot of sense, especially considering the extensive truck and transport requirements of the SLGA, and the fact that it is an importer of products from around the globe,” Minister responsible for the GTH Bill Boyd said. “The GTH is ‘Saskatchewan’s Gateway to the World’ and it continues to stimulate our provincial economic development through new jobs and investment.”
SLGA and the GTH are finalizing the sale of a 15 acre parcel of land. Construction of the facility will be awarded through a Request for Proposals process released later this summer with construction expected to begin later this year. The new 145,000 square foot warehouse is expected to be operational by spring of 2015.
