INTERN DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM RENEWED

Released on March 18, 2013

A successful Crown internship program that has helped to find permanent jobs for hundreds of post-secondary graduates has been renewed for another five year term.

Operated by the Crown Investments Corporation, Gradworks will receive up to $2.3 million for a five-year extension to run until December of 2019.

“This program has really proven its worth,” Crown Investments Corporation Minister Donna Harpauer said.  “Gradworks has a strong track record in helping graduates get that all-important first job, and most of them have stayed on in Saskatchewan to take advantage of opportunities here at home.”

Gradworks places about 75 interns annually in CIC and the province’s nine commercial Crown corporations where they work in a variety of fields, including business planning, customer relations, engineering, marketing, IT and others.  All of the internships are paid, and each runs for a one-year term.  There are six intakes of new graduates each year.

The program gives the Crowns access to a high quality pool of employment candidates and it provides graduates an opportunity to gain valuable work experience.

Since the beginning of the program, more than 700 university graduates have been placed through the program.  Of those, 97 per cent have gone on to find full time jobs.  About 67 per cent of Gradworks interns have landed full time work within the Crown sector.
