GOVERNMENT RECEIVES LATEST SUBMISSIONS ON SASKATCHEWAN LABOUR LEGISLATION

The Government of Saskatchewan has received over 4,000 responses to its consultations on the modernization of the province’s labour legislation since May 2012.  The latest round of consultations brought more than 200 submissions from businesses, unions, public sector groups, professional organizations and individuals – which together represent thousands of Saskatchewan residents.

“I’m impressed with the quality of the response to our consultations,” Labour Relations and Workplace Safety Minister Don Morgan said.  “We’ve heard from a broad spectrum of Saskatchewan people, including members of the Minister’s Advisory Committee, and I would like to thank everyone who participated.”

The submissions will be carefully reviewed and the Minister will meet with the Advisory Committee.

The Saskatchewan Employment Act updates and consolidates labour legislation from twelve Acts.  It clearly defines the rights and responsibilities of employees, employers and unions.

“Our goal in creating this legislation was to ensure that we have a fair and balanced piece of legislation that will promote growth, increase accountability and better protect workers,” Morgan said.  “I believe this legislation achieves that.”

Consultations will occur on the regulations once the Bill has passed.
