PROVINCIAL SECRETARY DECLARES RENDEZ-VOUS DE LA FRANCOPHONIE IN SASKATCHEWAN

Released on March 6, 2013

Today, Provincial Secretary Wayne Elhard proclaimed March 8 to 24 as Rendez-vous de la Francophonie 2013 in Saskatchewan.

During this period, Saskatchewan citizens are encouraged to join millions of others from all over the country to celebrate Canada's French culture and heritage.  This year's theme "Joie de vivre" was chosen to highlight the liveliness and good nature of Canada's francophone communities.

“This year’s theme speaks directly to the character of our own provincial francophone community,” Elhard said.  “I am continually amazed at their commitment to the history and development of French language and culture, and their contribution to the growth and evolution of Saskatchewan.”

Rendez-vous de la Francophonie is held annually in March throughout Canada to promote French language and francophone culture and to coincide with the International Day of La Francophonie on March 20.  Communities across the province will participate in the celebration by holding a number of events.

There are 9.5 million French-speakers in Canada and almost 50,000 in Saskatchewan.  To find out more about this year's Rendez-vous celebrations, visit www.rvf.ca.
