Residents of Kipling and area are one step closer to a patient and family-centred modern health care facility. The community celebrated the sod turning of the Kipling Integrated Health Centre today.
Construction of the $25.1 million facility started in May this year. The new facility will replace the Willowdale Lodge and the Kipling Memorial Health Centre.
“We are very pleased to see this exciting step forward for the integrated health facility in Kipling,” Health Minister Dustin Duncan said. “It will provide a safer, more comfortable and family-centred living and working environment for residents, patients and staff. Our government continues to deliver on our promise to put patients first and is committed to improving healthcare infrastructure in the province.”
The provincial government is contributing $18 million toward the project.
“I cannot begin to describe how excited I am about this project,” Kipling Mayor Duane Leicht said. “Having seen the design of the building, I believe we will have one of the nicest facilities in the province. The residents, patients and staff will have a beautiful and more functional building to live, recover and work in. We will continue to work with the ministry and the health region throughout the project.”
“We anticipate that the new Kipling Integrated Health Facility will benefit our region and patients with respect to recruitment and retention of quality physicians and support staff,” Kipling District Health Foundation Chair Allan LaRose said. “We look forward to the completion of the health facility.”
“Sun Country Health Region is delighted to see construction begin on this project,” Sun Country Health Region CEO Marga Cugnet said. “This will be the kind of facility that will help our staff provide modern, quality care to our patients and a home-like environment for our long-term care residents.”
Minister Duncan and Minister of Rural and Remote Health Randy Weekes along with local town and rural municipality officials, members of the health foundation and representatives of the health region attended the celebration at the Kipling Memorial Health Centre today.
The new facility will accommodate 45 beds, including 32 long-term care beds, 12 acute beds and one multipurpose bed. It is one of 13 long-term care facility renewal projects which were announced in 2009 by the provincial government.
