PROTECTIVE SERVICES PERSONNEL HONOURED IN REGINA

Released on June 21, 2013

Provincial Secretary Wayne Elhard joined Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Solomon Schofield at Government House in Regina today to present recipients with the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal.

“It’s always a privilege to honour our veteran protective services personnel who work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of our citizens,” Elhard said.  “They represent a long tradition of dedication and excellence – the true character of Saskatchewan.”

The medal recognizes individuals who have 25 years or more of exemplary service protecting Saskatchewan people or their property in either a volunteer or a full-time capacity.  Recipients can include firefighters, police officers, corrections workers, provincial traffic officers, Canadian Forces members, conservation officers and emergency medical responders.

Established in 2003, the medal is administered by the Government of Saskatchewan in close co-operation with the Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police, Saskatchewan Firefighters Association and other agencies with eligible personnel.

Recipients receive a circular medal beneath the St. Edward's Crown.  It bears a shield with a lion on a stylized western red lily and the motto Qui civitatem tuentur (who guard the citizenry).  It is suspended from a ribbon of green with two narrow gold stripes, the provincial colours.
