GOVERNMENT OF SASKATCHEWAN ENDORSES PARTNERSHIP FOR MARTENSVILLE MULTI-PURPOSE FACILITY

Released on July 18, 2013

Today at the site of the planned Martensville High School expansion, Minister of Central Services Nancy Heppner on behalf of Minister of Education Russ Marchuk announced that the Government of Saskatchewan has approved a partnership to add more space to the project that will be jointly used by the community and the school.

“Taking advantage of opportunities to partner on infrastructure projects like we’re seeing here in Martensville is both efficient and sustainable,” Heppner said.  “We are pleased that the community and the school division have found a creative way to address both student and community needs within the same facility.”

The Ministry of Education and Prairie Spirit School Division are contributing an estimated total of $1.42 million to the development of the multi-purpose facility.  This will support the school division in accessing the municipal portion of the joint facility, which will be attached to Martensville High School.

These funds are in addition to the extensive renovation and addition planned for Martensville High School.  In March, the Government of Saskatchewan announced it had approved the school capital project to move to construction this fiscal year.   The major school capital project is currently in detailed design. Once this phase is completed, the school portion of the project can be tendered for construction.

“We are very proud of our partnership with the City of Martensville," Prairie Spirit Board of Education Chair Larry Pavloff said. "We are looking forward to the construction of the Martensville multi-purpose facility, which will benefit both the community and our students.  This project, along with the renovation and expansion planned for Martensville High School, will help to alleviate the space shortage in our schools in Martensville.”

Since November 2007, the Government of Saskatchewan has committed approximately $600 million toward 43 major school capital projects and approximately 900 additional smaller school capital projects across the province.
