HISTORY COMES ALIVE AT GOVERNMENT HOUSE

Released on July 2, 2013

Today, history is about to come to life in Regina with the launch of new, live Government House and RCMP Historical Vignettes.  The kickoff of this programming also promotes and celebrates Canadian History Week, July 1-7.

“This unique partnership and program will not only help us celebrate our past achievements, but will actively engage all Canadians in our history by allowing our stories to be heard and seen through these vignettes,” Minister responsible for the Provincial Capital Commission Kevin Doherty said.  “At a time when our province is experiencing record population growth it is particularly fascinating to experience a live history performance about how it all started.”

Visitors to both Government House and the RCMP Heritage Centre will be able to travel back in time through these engaging bilingual (English and French) vignettes performed simultaneously at each property.  These live theatrical vignettes will relay the history and relationship between Government House and the RCMP during the creation of Saskatchewan in 1905.

The Government House and RCMP Historical Vignettes will take place Tuesday and Saturday afternoons from 1-4 p.m., are open to the public and free of charge at Government House.

This pilot program was made possible by the partnership of La Société historique de la Saskatchewan, Canadian Heritage, Government House and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Heritage Centre.
