In October of 2013 manufacturing sales totalled $1.35 billion, up from $1.21 billion last year and a record for the month, according to Statistics Canada.“Saskatchewan manufacturers are world class business people who are innovative and can compete on a global basis,” Economy Minister Bill Boyd said. “At home, these businesses are investing in local communities and have become a major player in the labour market – employing 27,000 people across the province in high-skilled occupations.”
On a year-over-year basis, sales are up by 11.4 per cent in the province, the third highest percentage increase in the nation.
“Manufacturing is a mainstay of the Saskatchewan economy and export market, producing a variety of goods destined for customers in both domestic and foreign markets,” Boyd said. “The manufacturing sector is thriving in our province, and the record numbers for October will definitely give the economy a boost as we head into 2014.”
