Released on December 6, 2013
Like the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, Mandela saved his country and freed a people.
Lincoln once said “Die when I may, I want it said of me by those who knew me best, that I always plucked a thistle and planted a flower where I thought a flower could grow.”
Nelson Mandela plucked many thistles and planted many, many flowers. And the world is better for his gardening.
The flags at the Legislature will fly at half mast until Mandela’s funeral on December 15. In addition, a book of condolences will be in the rotunda of the Legislature until the day of the funeral.
