PROVINCE RECEIVES FRANCOPHONE ADVISORY COMMITTEE’S REPORT ON SOCIAL SERVICES

Released on August 14, 2013

Provincial Secretary Wayne Elhard has received the Advisory Committee on Francophone Affairs’ report on accessing social services in French.

“I’d like to thank the advisory committee for its work on this report,” Elhard said.  “For more than a century Saskatchewan’s francophone community has been a dependable partner providing advice, insight and hard work toward the growth and development of our province.”

The report’s four recommendations are designed to help improve access to social services in French and are based on ongoing consultations with the provincial government and representatives from across the francophone community.  The Ministry of Social Services appreciates the advisory committee’s recommendations and will continue to strive to provide clients with services in the language of their choice, including French.

The Advisory Committee on Francophone Affairs was created in 2009 to advise the Provincial Secretary, whose duties include French-language services, on the implementation of the provincial government’s decade-old French language services policy.

Providing services in French allows the provincial government to meet the needs of citizens while continuing to attract French-speaking newcomers to Saskatchewan.
