GOVERNMENT APPROVES 2013-14 GRANT FUNDING FOR SETTLEMENT AGENCIES

Released on August 8, 2013

Agencies supporting Saskatchewan newcomers were authorized for $160,959 in funding for the 2013-14 fiscal year through the Saskatchewan Immigration Settlement Assistance Grant program.

The funds will facilitate the Regina Open Door Society, the Saskatoon Open Door Society, the Moose Jaw Multicultural Council Inc., the Prince Albert Multicultural Council and the Saskatchewan Association of Immigrant Settlement and Integration Agencies Inc. in delivering integral immigration settlement and support services in the province.

“Moving to a new jurisdiction can be both an exciting and overwhelming experience for a newcomer,” Economy Minister Bill Boyd said.  “Thanks to the help of settlement agencies, immigrants and refugees can access the services they need to make the transition to life in Saskatchewan both easy and comfortable.  Our government appreciates and continues to support the valuable services and assistance these agencies provide.”

The Government of Saskatchewan has provided annual grant funding to these agencies for more than 20 years.
